A Villa in Southern Italy operated by the Vergilian Society

 

The Villa Vergiliana can be your institution's headquarters along the Bay of Naples. It is uniquely situated and designed to host study abroad programs, international conferences and as a home for study tours. Open year round, it is available to institutions for day, week, month, summer or semester long programs.

Individual scholars are welcome to use the villa and its modest library with internet access. Whether passing through the region for a few days or needing a base for extended research, members are welcome to use the villa.

For over 50 years, the property, a magnificent three-story villa situated at the northwestern corner of the Bay of Naples, has hosted students and academics in this culturally dynamic region.

It is sited in extensive grounds within the archaeological park of Cumae adjacent to the Roman amphitheater with many of the guest rooms and salons enjoying spectacular window and balcony views over the Tyrrhenian Sea and the site of Cumae. The villa offers the perfect facility for an academic conference or study abroad program.

Villa Salon Shot 1Close to Naples, Pompeii, Capri and the communities around the Bay of Naples the building offers accessibility to the cultural experiences of the region without the concerns of an urban environment. Students and scholars at the villa get to experience traditional Italian culture in a bucolic Italian setting. The facility boasts an on-site bi-lingual director experienced in coordinating study abroad programs and study tours. She can assist with transportation, guides, museum and site admissions, and recommendations of highly qualified local scholars to support your program. Her years of experience managing the villa allow visiting directors to concentrate on teaching as she arranges all local organizational details.

The main floor of the villa includes large salons that can be utilized for lectures, presentations, classes, musical performances and receptions. Also on that floor is a library containing over 6000 volumes including key ancient texts, modern scholarship, guidebooks, and important journals on the history, art and archaeology of the region. Wireless internet and satellite television are also found at the facility along with a digital projector for presentations and film viewings. Groups from 4 to 40 have used the villa for a variety of functions from school study tours to major international conferences.
